ICMMGH 2024

The 2nd International Conference on Modern Medicine and Global Health (ICMMGH 2024) was a hybrid conference which includes several workshops (offline and online) around the world. Dr. Mohammed JK Bashir from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Dr. Omda Omran from University of Central Florida, Dr. Roman Bauer from University of Surrey, and Dr. Shuai Chen from Wuhan University have chaired these workshops on related topics. ICMMGH 2024 provided the participants with good opportunities to exchange ideas and build networks, and it will lead to further collaborations between both universities and other societies.

Workshop

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia

Workshop Chair: Dr. Mohammed JK Bashir, Professor in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman

The workshop attended by 36 participants recently explored into the critical issue of microbiological contamination in water supply systems and Environmental Management System. The primary objective was to communicate comprehensive knowledge about the sources, types, and health impacts of such contamination. Recognizing the importance of assessing and treating pathogenic microorganisms, the workshop provided an invaluable platform for participants to learn about evaluating the microbiological quality of drinking water.

The sessions began with an exploration of the water supply system, emphasizing the necessity of a safe water supply. Experts then shed light on the various pathogenic microorganisms found in water distribution systems, discussing their sources and the differences between pathogens and pathogen indicators. This was crucial in understanding the complexities of waterborne diseases and their significant health impacts.

A pivotal part of the workshop focused on the role of both pre-disinfection and post-disinfection processes in water treatment plants. Participants were engaged in evaluating the mechanisms through which disinfection combats microorganisms. The workshop concluded with a critical analysis of different disinfection technologies, where they were examined for their efficiency, technical aspects, cost, and environmental implications. This comprehensive discourse enabled participants to make informed decisions about selecting appropriate disinfection processes for ensuring a safe water supply.

University of Surrey, UK

Workshop Chair: Dr. Roman Bauer, Senior Lecturer in University of Surrey

On December 1st 2023 the workshop "Computational analysis and modelling for biomedicine" (CAMBI) was held in Guildford at the University of Surrey (UK). The workshop was hosted by the COMBYNE lab (www.combynelab.com) and held as a hybrid meeting, to facilitate involvement of participants from many different countries and institutions. This international workshop comprised a selection of presentations and interactive talks on Computational Biomedicine topics from leading academics, well-established domain experts and also PhD students who embark on a research career. Over 20 participants were present, mostly academics and PhD students from institutions such as the University of Surrey, the University of Nottingham, Newcastle University (UK), private medical practices and others. Members of the international BioDynaMo collaboration (www.biodynamo.org) also contributed to the workshop. The workshop started off with an introductory talk on researchusing agent-based modelling, a well-established computational approach. Subsequent talks touched on many of the challenges and prospects of computational modelling in biomedicine. The audience actively engaged with the presenters and brought up important issues such as the challenges of parameter calibration, potential avenues of computational modelling towards concrete clinical applications, and the impact of fat-tailed feature distributions on statistical significance. Example talks focussed on topics comprising various complex systems and their dynamics, such as for instance retinal growth, cancer growth and predicting the impact of brain stimulation. Wuhan University, China

Workshop Chair: Dr. Shuai Chen, Associate Professor in Wuhan University

On December 2, 2023, the 4th International Conference on Chemistry of Materials and Environmental Engineering was held in Wuhan, China, in Room 602, 6th Floor, China Oil and Grease Museum, Wuhan, China. More than ten reporters in the conference reported colorful and full of content, deeply centered on the development of chemistry and materials, environment and engineering aspects to put forward different theoretical research. Attendees at the conference were attentive and focused on learning about the trends and directions of future development.

The presenters and experts shared many valuable insights and experiences from different perspectives. Among them, at the meeting, Ms. Siqi Zhou reported the latest research results of Chen Shuai's research group from Wuhan University, reported the research content of the co-encapsulation of curcumin and resveratrol with zein and chitosan. Ms. Guo Jingxuan reported the latest research progress of carrageenan matrix nanomembrane applied to food packaging. Ms. Yifei Huang reported the research progress on the preparation technology, stability, metabolic mechanism and physiological function of anthocyanins. They reported different insights on materials and detection, which provided valuable advice for the construction of materials chemistry environmental engineering.

Through active participation and cooperation, we were able to fully communicate and learn from each other, providing many new ideas and directions for future scientific and technological development.

Online Session

The online session of the 2nd International Conference on Modern Medicine and Global Health (ICMMGH 2024) was held on January 05, 2024. Professor Prof. Dr. Mohammed JK Bashir from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Dr. Tooba Mahboob from USCI University have given keynote speeches on related topics of water quality, microorganisms, etc. Also, we invited authors of qualified papers to deliver oral presentations at the Online Session. The authors have presented their studies of biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical science, medicine, public health, etc. Questions from the audience were collected and answered by the presenters.
